Innocent and pristine, creative and thankful; genuine smiles, sweet laughter; hilarious little jokes--not funny for the joke itself, but funny for the tone and voice it came from; tight hugs from little arms--so genuine that I can feel the warmth and love: all of these make me blissful.
I would much rather view life as I did when I was a child: innocent, pristine,so joyous. I remember Christmas morning--waking up with the brightest eyes, and running to a tree that is shining just as bright as my eyes were. I remember Halloween, when the night fell and I was dressed ready to move out and get all the candy I could, even though I knew I was only allowed one piece a day. I remember special moments with my family: seeing Baby Ezra then becoming "Aunty Sophie" at six years of age, then seeing Baby Coco be born at seven years of age. I swore these were "the best days ever."
Being a child was so simple and something beautiful to me, and, as I've aged, I now see the beauty and innocense of a child through Dakota. I see the way he lights up at the simplicity of seeing me coming to pick up him and his siblings. the gratitude of "Aunt Foofa" coming home to make him and his siblings a quick after school snack before I'm off to work. "Aunty Foofa you're the best aunty ever. I wish you could stay but you have to go to work." I sit here and admire the ways of a child, because every one was a child at one point, which makes me have faith in the world itself. Not one single person was born "bad."
My mom always says that before we judge someone, we should try to imagine the child they were.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you provide information about how you were as a child to show how exciting wverything was as a child.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you describe yourself as Dakota when you were a child
ReplyDeleteI love how you talk about how you wish that you could see life through your eyes as a child
ReplyDeletethe innocence that comes with an under developed age can be quite adorable. But I love to see people grow and learn and become independent as well. Seeing your nephew become something great in the future will be just as satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe the innocence children have when we are so young. Children always seems to give constant love and affection just like Dakota who wants you to stay with him and not go to work. I also love how you explain the times when you were younger as "the best days ever," because I can agree--seems like as we grow older we become overwhelmed with unnecessary things.
